Maxi Fantastic

Had an amazing time at the Maxi – Craft fair at Re/Dress last night.  The PiC helped me set up and Bevin, being the queen that she is, gave me the most comfy chair since standing wasn’t an option I’d have like the other crafters.  I was positioned next to a lovely lady by the name of Pam who made beautiful steampunk inspired jewelry. We shared lovely discussions about swing dancing and how I got broken.

There was all sorts of crafts from hand embroidered handkerchiefs, knitted sea creatures to some beautiful photography.  In true Re/Dress fashion though there was also some fat positive time.  It’s something that I don’t always talk about publicly but it is something that is on my mind constantly.  Luckily there is a woman who not only thinks and talks about it but is putting it into a film for all to see.  Her name is Kira Nerusskaya and she is putting together a documentary called Fat Girls Float.  It’s a film which will give a voice to plus size women from multiple countries.  She has financed the entire project on her own and has been raising finances on Kickstart.  She has only three more days in which you can pledge so if you are able to give anything, hit this lady up.  It’s an awesome cause.

In other news, my dear friend Caitlin and Justin are visiting us while they are in town for the One of a Kind Craft Show.  Caitlin is the genius behind Rebound Designs which some of you might remember I worked for for a short time.  I can back her quality not just as a former helper but as an owner of one of these amazing purses.  They are super fun and make great gifts, I’m just saying y’all.

Well now its time to just spend sometime relaxing today and enjoying the little furry babies.  Hope you all enjoy your Thursday as well!

And this has been going on for how long?

Yesterday was my third birthday as a burlesque performer.  If you had told me that Wednesday night 3 years ago I would move to NYC to pursue a career further in burlesque I would have thought you were insane.  I would have thought that was out of my league.  Now I know that I have grown as a performer and that I just feel the growth continuing.

I celebrated yesterday by going to my favorite store in Brooklyn, Re/Dress and just ogling all of their fineries.  There’s a dress I REALLLLY want but being of the unemployed beast I didn’t get it.  Then I went down to the Slipper Room and took a class with Jo Boobs and Julie Atlas Muz.  Both such incredible women and I really gained a lot from the teachers and my fellow students. Then it was off to meet the POC at Kitty Nights.  It was a fun show with cute acts.  Good times were had and we truly enjoyed ourselves.

I feel like I am assimilating into living in New York very well.  I am catching onto the subway system which is good.  I actually have had people ask me for directions!  That’s always a good sign.  Things over all just feel calmer in the spirit here.  Maybe that’s cause we haven’t been around long enough to be part of any drama but that’s ok by me.

Oh, I am so sorry for my slacking on everything.  While I do love love love New York the majority of my energies have been going into trying to find employment.  My mind gets so one tracked and it’s all I can focus on.  Hopefully soon though.  I actually have had a few interviews and have at least one more lined up with a wait on a phone call as well.

So yeah, I’m going to try to make myself post atleast twice a week and do a video blog once a week.  Maybe one written post and one video, I don’t know.  We shall see though but I will do more to stay in contact with you all.  And I am going to focus this upcoming year on fine tuning my performances.  Making them sparkle more, making them more wow factor and such.

What a Weekend!

Why does it always take me so long to post after I have an amazing experience?  I guess it’s because it takes me that much time to climb down from my happy cloud and get to work.  And by work I mean tell you all how fabulous you are!

And you all are fabulous!! Thank you first to those who came out to support and perform in my premiere show of, “Bambi’s Burlezk Expereince!”  I was so so nervous but everyone did so much to make me feel awesome, the audience, the other performers, I can’t tell you how much your cheers and encouragement meant.  Malibu, Lizzie Furr and Victoria Vixen blew my expectations! Thank you so much ladies for be so open and ready to do my crazy tv themeshow show, lol.  I love that we all share that same brand of crazy.  I am also so proud that with your help we impressed Priscilla so much not to just keep the show going, my one worry but to make it a MONTHLY show!  Monthly!! I am so stoked and blown by it and I hope that I am up to the job.  I do know that with the amazing talent that has the same level of professionalism that I have it will be no problem to make these things happen! So amazing.

Then there was Friday, Jo Boob’s New York School of Burlesque Showcase.  What an honor!  Even after having just produced and hosted my own show the night before I was more nervous performing a number I already knew!  I mean it was on the stage of The Slipper Room! It was in front of talent that I highly respect like Jo Boobs and Gal Friday!  It was with other incredibly talented women and in front of Friday night New Yorkers!  It was crazy!  But the number went flawlessly.  The audience ate it up when I started to bump, oh yeah, they liked that ;) One really cool thing was my friend Laurin made it to the show after us not seeing each other well since before I was performing burlesque.  I loved that I could share this with her and her roomie.  The PiC and I ended up staying for the second show because we ran into our friend Belle Curves and had a great time.  The performers were amazing; Nasty Canasta, Clams Casino, Jezebel Express, Legs Malone, Ferro and Jesus!  Oh how Jesus was the perfect kind of Jesus, lots of on your knees jokes if you get what I’m saying.  We had an a blast, lots of laughs, cheering and memories.  Plan for photos peeps!

Saturday was a great relaxing day too.  We slept in late at the hotel and then met up with Weirdee Girl for brunch.  Funny part of the story, she ended up getting really delayed so we waited for 3 hours before she showed up, lol.  It was ok though, the restaurant was super cool about it and had amazing food and drinks.  It was called Pacifico and was just like a fairy tale in New York City.  A little piece of south of the border heaven.  After a total of 5 hours we walked over to Re/Dress an awesome plus size vintage boutique.  The clothes they had,…. let’s just say I got some major finds!  I didn’t even get through half of the racks before I knew I had already thrown my budget out the window.  Oh but how I will love these clothes and wear them with pride.

Actually Friday I will probably my debut of at least one of my outfits.  I will be going out to support some amazing new talent to the burlesque community and some incredible veterans.  Sugar Shack South is premiering at Palace of Wonders. It will be a blast, I just know it already.  My mom will actually be in town and has agreed to come!  so if you want to meet Bambi’s awesome momma, make it out and cheer for these amazing girls and buy us cocktails ;) Just kidding unless you really want to.

Don’t forget, send me a message on here if you would like to be included in the email updates for me.  I promise to do my best not to send more than two a month, hopefully just one though.

Huggles and kisses you amazing people you!
